Benefits of Singing Songs or performing drama - try LAMDA!

ree

According to Jack Wells, Head of IGCSE, Nanjing Hankai Academy in China, LAMDA and drama is growing in popularity in China, with both parents and students alike starting to respect the subject and understand the benefits it provides. One of the main reasons for the rise in popularity is the use of English. All students in China learn English, but very few learn it well. This is mostly due to a lack of opportunities to use the English that they have learnt, and drama is now providing that opportunity. Students who were shy to speak to foreigners are now bold and confident and the opinion that Chinese students are not being creative are slowly going away.

As I teach students that have English as a second language, I am realising the benefits in their language speaking/expression, reading and comprehension. It is amazing to see their confidence grow as they enjoy the process and the adventure of developing their singing and acting material. I am also seeing the fluency and comprehension benefits of my own children, where Chinese is their second language, in learning Chinese songs. As the students work collaboratively in class and have new experiences, they also develop friendships and skills in group projects.

LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, UK) offers courses and exams in drama, musical theatre and communications with guidance from teachers from all over the world. Musicworks SG are registered LAMDA teachers and an examination hub for students to realise their full performance and communication potential. Contact us for more information.
